I have an unhealthy love of bread pudding. I blame this love on a popular Irish pub near Boston that serves up a ginormous portion of dense, luscious bread pudding with banana
The Black Beast. I think that’s a perfect name for A. the virus I just told you about and B. this ganache-laden flourless chocolate cake.
Here at The Shortlists’ mother den, things can get a little out of control. Annual homeward migrations mean nonstop runs of long, boozy dinners in and out.
So last night not only did I have five Italians at my dinner table, I had five Italians from Bologna at my dinner table. Since one such Italian was the wine importer (see photo of table below), events are a bit fuzzy.
It’s been too long (which in our world is two weeks) since we had a dinner party but tonight we’re back on track.
As you can tell from my recent shortlists, I’ve been making a lot of quiche. Quiche for birthdays, quiche for academics. Cold quiche for lunch, picked at for 5pm snack, warmed quiche for dinner.
The first time I had this dish it almost killed me. It was a hot summer night in Rome. Francesco and I were still in the wooing stage of things, and I was still apt to impress him with my taste for fine whiskey (which I hate) and ability to wander museums for loooong stretches (which I don’t possess)
Cherries are in season at my local supermarket. I know that cherries grow in the summer. I know I should really only buy local, seasonal produce.
