I’m about to make this cake for the third time in as many weeks. I made it to begin with because our wonderful au pair, our fourth (and best behaved) child, our lifesaver extraordinaire, Aurora, is in the middle of a love affair with sweet potatoes.
We’re a household of 7 (!) this month because we’re lucky enough to have Brenna (a precious old friend, cookie discoverer, one-time contributor to this blog!, and generally amazing human being) staying with us.

By the looks of my kitchen, it looks as if the world was about to end. We have pounds and pounds of fresh fruit (peaches, figs, cherries, grapes), muesli bars, and cheese.
I’m going to keep this short and very, very sweet. I’ve got just over 5 hours left of study time today, and while I shouldn’t be spending it baking (or blogging), I couldn’t resist.
I have lots to do today. My suitcase is still staring at me, fully packed; the laundry needs to be folded and put away; the dishwasher needs emptying; the little pool of dirt Stella made under the potted fern needs sweeping up; and all those endless law readings need checking off.
