Bran muffins are my jam. Seriously. This is my second full post on them. In the first, from over 5 years ago, I recount my long and loving history with the bran muffin and my inability to make them well at home.
The title of this post is so New England in autumn it hurts. Summer tans are all but faded and the last nice days are slipping away as the chill sets in. Heavy blankets, fallen leaves, my loud and constant complaining –
By the looks of my kitchen, it looks as if the world was about to end. We have pounds and pounds of fresh fruit (peaches, figs, cherries, grapes), muesli bars, and cheese.
I really owe you an apology. Not only because of my radio silence over the last 8 weeks, but because I honestly thought I’d already written about this recipe.
Life is very sweet at the moment. There are the thigh rolls, the hiccups, the squeaks and squawks, the first little smiles. So much sweetness I can hardly sleep at night lest I miss a few moments of staring in wonder.

I’ve never been a huge breakfast person. Most mornings, give me a cup of tea or a mug of coffee and I’m set for the next few hours. But lately I’ve been coming around. And I blame it all on bircher muesli.
I’d never live in Kansas, dye my hair, name my child after him, or stop cracking my fingers. I’d never wear high heels in the snow (unless I wanted to) or redirect my moral compass
I’m not one to try to improve on perfection. I use only one recipe for chocolate chip cookies, scones, and cream cheese frosting. And the reason is simple: they are perfect.
My idea of the perfect weekend? One with friends spent eating, drinking, drinking and eating with an occasional interruption for a walk on the beach.
Here’s a sentiment you’re not apt to come across very often: no more chocolate cake.

Since these are not my scones, I can say with authority that they are, without a doubt, the world’s best.
